The NWSL is celebrating record growth, again. Here's the thing...I've been trying to write this blog for weeks but every single time I get ready to publish, someone else breaks another attendance record.
So, let's just take a look at the highest home attendance for each team so far this season (well, as of Week 6 - I'll update this at the end of the season to see how far we've come.)
Angel City FC: 22,000 (Sellout crowd)
Bay FC: 18,000 (Sellout crowd)
Chicago Red Stars: 5,494
Houston Dash: 7,767
Kansas City Current: 11,500 (Sellout crowd)
NJ/NY Gotham FC: 8,573
North Carolina Courage: 8,135
Orlando Pride: 7,701
Portland Thorns FC: 19,857
Racing Louisville FC: 11,365
San Diego Wave FC: 32,066 (Sellout crowd)
Seattle Reign: 9,626
Utah Royals FC: 20,370 (Sellout crowd)
Washington Spirit: 15,004
And, let's see how that compares to the 2023 season averages:
Angel City FC: 19,756
Bay FC: joined in 2023
Chicago Red Stars: 4,848
Houston Dash: 5,857
Kansas City Current: 11,353
NJ/NY Gotham FC: 6,293
North Carolina Courage: 5,384
Orlando Pride: 6,005
Portland Thorns FC: 18,918
Racing Louisville FC: 5,999
San Diego Wave FC: 20,718
Seattle Reign: 13,610
Utah Royals FC: joined in 2023
Washington Spirit: 10,876
Just to note, the 2023 season brought a 26% increase in average attendance with 1.2 million tickets sold, the most since the NWSL was founded. We are well on our way to break that record for the 2024 season.
