There's a community-owned amateur women's soccer team with big dreams, and now they have the support of a WNBA head coach.

Minnesota Aurora FC was involved in last year's bid process but backed out due to financial complications. A unique team, with 5,337 investors, just couldn't get the funds together to meet the NWSL's demands.

Now, they have two new investors - WNBA Minnesota Lynx head coach Cheryl Reeve and president of business operations Carley Knox. The team also admits to bringing in a few other private investors to supplement the community support. No specific details about funding dollars were shared.

From ESPN: "For us, the No. 1 [goal] is getting us an NWSL team. We want to dive in full force and really help grow this thing to get us an NWSL team, because it will be an incredible market. There will be unbelievable support, and the community will absolutely get behind them in a way that we haven't seen before." - Carley Knox

Aurora FC joined the USL W League in 2022 and has played near or at-capacity crowds at its 6,000-seat venue since. Reeve and Knox have even been season ticket holders since that inaugural season.

More details available on the Aurora FC website.
