Week 14 in the NWSL and we were ready for all the action. Here are the results, some with league-provided highlights.

Friday, August 1, 2025

Lynn Family Stadium on NWSL+ at 8:00 p.m.

It took them until the second half to get back to their scoring ways, but then the league-leading Current got a goal by Temwa Chawinga (65' assist from Cooper) and a follow up a few minutes later on a close-range header by Elizabeth Ball (72' cross and assist by Rodriguez) off a set piece to earn three points.

SeatGeek Stadium on Prime Video at 8:00 p.m.

Another close-range header opened the scoring as Gotham's Khyah Harper (39') used an assist from Schupansky (NWSL leader in the category mid-Week 14) to take the lead. But Chicago equalized when Ally Schlegel headed a goal into the upper right corner (68') on a perfect cross/assist from Grosso. The teams each earn a point for their work Saturday night.

Lumen Field on NWSL+/ P+ at 10:30 p.m.

In the final match on Friday night, Seattle got a goal from Jess Fishlock (66' unassisted) and then added on when LA's Alanna Kennedy was charged with that bloody Own Goal (OG) stat in the 87th minute.

Saturday, August 2, 2025

First Horizon Stadium on ION at 7:30 p.m.

If possession (58%-42%) and shots (18-6) determined a winner, Wave FC would've had this one. Alas, those things do not and the teams each walk (or limped in some cases) away from this one with a point on their table. For San Diego those 25 table points have them tied with Orlando for the second spot. That is, at least, until the Pride play their match for Week 14.

PayPal Park on ION at 10:00 p.m.

In the more compelling match of the Saturday night ION-broadcast pair, Houston scored a late goal (88' by Sophie Smith with a header from just outside the goal, assist to Sheehan with the cross) to earn its point. Here's how the scoring went:

Penelope Hocking (16') put Bay up early (assist Kundananji) before Kiki Van Zanten equalized (72') with a right-footed goal off a cross and assist by Patterson. That draw didn't last long as Taylor Huff pushed Bay back on top two minutes later with a tap in off a Malonson assist setting up Smith's late heroics. The 15,002 in attendance couldn't leave early on this one.

Sunday, August 3, 2025

Audi Field on ABC at 12:30 p.m.

As if her return to play wasn't emotional enough, it was Washington's Trinity Rodman whose goal in stoppage time (90+2' assist to Bethune) following a nearly 8-month absence, gave the home town crowd something else to celebrate. Gift Monday put the Spirit on the scoreboard with an early goal (17' assist to Kouassi), but Portland equalized during first-half stoppage (45+3' assist to Fleming).

Inter&Co Stadium on NWSL+ / P+ at 6:00 p.m.

It took until midway through the second half for them to do it, but Orlando's Prisca Chilufya equalized (72' assist by Jackson) to lead the Pride to the draw that picks up a point and keeps the 2024 champs to a tie with the Spirit for the second spot on the table. (They're still 10 points back of Kansas City, so ...)

Mina Tanaka scored almost immediately (4' assist from Riehl) for Utah, but their hopes to get out of the bottom spot in the standings vanished with Chilufya's score so they remain one point behind Chicago for that dubious distinction.

There it is, the wrap of Week 14. We're ready for an exciting August and hope you are too!
