Let me just say...I missed NWSL action over the past month. BUT, I did enjoy stepping away from my computer after my full-time job and not worrying about keeping y'all in the loop about what was going on in the league :)
That being said - HERE WE GO! NWSL action is back this weekend (Jody will have a preview and probably a recap of the matches that were played during the summer break posted soon) but there are a few headlines from July worth mentioning.
For those that don't know, the NWSLines team is based in Texas - some of us in the Texas panhandle and one of us in the DFW area. The flooding in the Hill Country hit us all pretty hard, not physically but emotionally. We're proud of the Houston Dash and NWSL for stepping up to help those directly impacted.
Alex Morgan accepts ESPYs Icon Award alongside Diana Taurasi
Spoiler alert, this isn't the last Alex Morgan headline you'll see in this post. She's the GOAT after all. And she was STUNNING on the red carpet and ESPY stage, crediting the women who came before her and paved the way for the future of women's sports. You can view the full acceptance speech here.
Denver Summit FC unveil name, colors and crest
Denver unveiled it's fan-voted team name this month, along with a crest that is 100% Colorado - a forest green and white palette of mountains under a warm red sky and bright yellow sun. It takes me back to my days living in Colorado and I will have a hard time not cheering on this team next season...
Alex Morgan retirement ceremony flexed to primetime on ESPN
I'm not gonna lie, I'm very jealous of those that will be in the stands for this match. I've been a fan of Alex Morgan for longer than I can remember. Luckily, I'll be able to watch the postgame ceremony on ESPN, ESPN+ or ESPN Deportes since the San Diego Wave vs. Houston Dash game was flexed to primetime on Sept. 7.
Racing Louisville FC wins second Women's Cup in penalty kicks
Look, we never said summer break was going to be boring! You can read all about the action-packed ending on the NWSL site. And a big congrats to Racing Louisville FC! Fun fact - they also won the very first Women's Cup back in 2021.
This headline speaks for itself, so click up there if you want to see when the matches are and who the nominees are :)
We've been talking about the wild growth of the NWSL since we launched last year and this article breaks down what we saw the first half of the season. I won't go into all the details, but these stats are worth sharing: social media followership is up 37%, TikTok followers are up 445%, YouTube viewership is up to 9.6 million minutes so far this year!
